Coaching Programs
Freestyle BC is committed to developing and providing education opportunities for freestyle coaches. Qualified coaches teaching safe progressions to skiers is a strength of our sport. The coaching pathway and certification are developed nationally with Freestyle Canada and the CAC’s flagship program, NCCP. Below are links to education and resources for freestyle coaches in BC.
FREESTYLE BC COACH REQUIREMENTS (MANDATORY)
- * Safe Sport E-Learning. SafeSport (every two years)
- * CAC Making Headway Training – Freestyle Skiing. Making Headway Online
- * CAC Make Ethical Decisions – Multi-Sport Online Session & the Online Evaluation. MED Online
- * Vulnerable Sector Check for coaches born before March 12, 1994 (must be done within your local RCMP jurisdiction) VSC Form
- * Individuals born after March 12, 1994, will be required to obtain an E-PIC MyBackCheck
BACKGROUND CHECK
Coaches must complete a Background Check (every three years) if they are over 18. Complete the background check in SnowReg, which will automatically synchronize with your SnowReg profile. MyBackCheck

The minimum age to be a Freestyle Coach in Canada is 16. Freestyle Canada allows 14 and 15-year-old individuals to take part in the sport-specific coaches’ courses. Coaches that are 14 and 15 years old will have a Trained status until they reach 16 years old, the age when their course will be recognized in the Locker, where they will be able to get their Certified status according to their evaluation.

Freestyle Canada’s Coach Pathway is developed and aligned with the National Coaching Certification Program and Long-Term Athlete Development from Canadian Sport For Life. Under the NCCP structure, our programs fall into the NCCP Context of coach training outlined below.
The coach is the most critical factor in making an excellent freestyle program through having fun and acquiring skills. Working with athletes takes a wealth of knowledge and skills achieved through experience, coach training and mentorship. Take the time to get updated each year and complete your certifications; you will be rewarded through your skier’s achievements.
